How We Rank Connecticut Med Spas

We rank Connecticut med spas by Google rating, weighted by how many people left one.

What Connecticut law and its licensing boards say about who may do med spa treatments, each with its source. This is a plain-English summary, not legal advice.

  1. Connecticut has a med spa law, CGS §19a-903c, which took effect October 1, 2014 and defines a medical spa as a place where cosmetic medical procedures are performed. [1]
  2. Under that law, cosmetic medical procedures include neurotoxins such as Botox, soft tissue fillers, cosmetic injections, laser hair removal, laser resurfacing, IPL, sclerotherapy, dermaplaning, dermastamping, dermarolling and chemical peels stronger than 30 percent with a pH below 3.0. [1]
  3. The legislature's Office of Legislative Research reported in 2025 that the Department of Public Health has no regulations written specifically for medical spas. [2]
  4. Each Connecticut med spa must employ or contract with a Connecticut-licensed physician, physician assistant or advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) who actively practices in the state and is trained and experienced in cosmetic procedures. [1]
  5. At a Connecticut med spa, Botox, fillers and other cosmetic medical procedures may be performed only by a physician, physician assistant, APRN or registered nurse, not by LPNs, estheticians or medical assistants. [1]
  6. Before your first cosmetic procedure at a med spa, a physician, physician assistant or APRN employed by or contracted with the spa must perform an initial physical assessment of you. [1]
  7. Laser hair removal, laser resurfacing, IPL and other laser procedures at a Connecticut med spa may be performed only by a physician, physician assistant, APRN or registered nurse. [1]
  8. A Connecticut esthetics license does not cover prescriptive laser devices, any cosmetic medical procedure under the med spa law, or anything that is the practice of medicine. [3]
  9. Connecticut APRNs must work in collaboration with a physician for their first three years of licensure, and after three years and 2,000 hours in collaboration they may practice and prescribe on their own. [4]
  10. Med spas must post the names and specialties of the clinicians performing procedures on site and on their website, and give you this information in writing before each procedure. [1]
  11. You can check a Connecticut physician, nurse, APRN or esthetician license on the state's eLicense License Lookup at elicense.ct.gov. [5]
