How We Rank Massachusetts Med Spas

We rank Massachusetts med spas by Google rating, weighted by how many people left one.

Across 32 Massachusetts med spas that post a Botox price, the median is $12.50 per unit.

That is above the $11 national median in our directory.

Most spas do not post prices, so ask for the per-unit price and the number of units in writing.

Are med spas regulated in Massachusetts?

Yes. The Department of Public Health says lasers, fillers, botulinum toxin, chemical peels and similar services are medical services that must be performed by or under the supervision of a medical practitioner.

A med spa providing these services must be licensed as a clinic unless it is wholly owned and controlled by its practitioners and does not use 'clinic', 'institute' or 'dispensary' in its name.

Who can do Botox in Massachusetts?

The Department of Public Health says botulinum toxin must be given by or under the direction or supervision of a medical practitioner.

The Board of Registration in Nursing says registered nurses and licensed practical nurses may give Botox-type toxins, but only on an authorized prescriber's order for a specific patient.

These nurses may not choose the drug or dose or obtain the drug themselves.

Do I need an exam before Botox in Massachusetts?

When a nurse gives Botox, the Board of Registration in Nursing says the patient assessment must be done and documented by a registered nurse or a prescriber.

The Board also says nurses may not do cosmetic procedures where the organization lacks policies requiring informed consent and a comprehensive, documented evaluation by an authorized prescriber.
