Key takeaways
- We found no confirmed national price for a lip flip; the lip-flip studies report no prices.
- It is priced like other botulinum toxin: per unit or per area, so a session is roughly units × the per-unit price.
- A 2025 systematic review reported a typical dose of 4 to 6 units; no US label sets a lip dose.
- Units are product-specific, so ask for the brand and the unit count, not just a total.
- Before comparing prices, check who will inject and where the product comes from.
How much does a lip flip cost?
We found no confirmed national price for a lip flip.
ASPS's 2025 Procedural Statistics release does not publish average fees for minimally invasive treatments, and the consumer cost pages we would normally check were not retrievable when we researched this page.
The lip-flip studies we reviewed report no prices either.
We could not find a source backing any dollar figure quoted as the national lip flip price.
The closest national anchor is a general one.
ASPS's own consumer cost page lists the average cost of botulinum toxin injections as $435, "according to the latest statistics" — the average fee reported by ASPS member plastic surgeons, not a med spa price and not a per-unit figure.
It is one average for botulinum toxin injections as a category, so it is not a lip flip quote.
What can be stated precisely is how the pricing works.
Botulinum toxin is typically priced per unit or per treatment area, and a session's price is roughly its units times the practice's per-unit price.
A lip flip quote therefore rests on two numbers: how many units the injector plans, and what the practice charges per unit.
What affects the cost of a lip flip?
The planned dose. No US neurotoxin label includes the lips or the orbicularis oris muscle, so — unlike the 20 units the Botox Cosmetic label sets for frown lines — there is no labeled lip dose.
The dose is the injector's plan.
A 2025 systematic review of the lip flip reported a typical dose of 4 to 6 units into the orbicularis oris, and a 2026 prospective study gave 17 women 4 units each and measured a modest increase in upper lip height at 15 days.
More planned units mean a higher total at a practice that charges per unit.
Our lip flip before and after page walks through what those studies measured.
The product. Toxin units are product-specific: the Botox Cosmetic label states its units cannot be compared to or converted into units of any other botulinum toxin product, and the Dysport label says the same of its own.
A per-unit price quoted in one brand's units does not translate into another brand's.
The pricing structure. A practice that charges per unit scales the bill with the units planned.
A practice that prices the flip as its own treatment area sets a number that may not track the unit count — if a quote is per area, asking how many units it includes makes it comparable with a per-unit quote.
What a per-unit rate looks like in practice. LaserAway listed Botox at $15 per unit, or $10 per unit in a 300-unit bank, and Xeomin at $12 per unit on its pricing page (read October 16, 2026); the chain says prices may vary by location.
Those are that chain's published injectable prices, not a lip flip price — a chain-published lip flip price is not something we could confirm — but they show how a per-unit rate turns into a session total once a dose is set.
Lip flip vs. lip filler cost
They are different purchases.
A lip flip everts the upper lip by relaxing the orbicularis oris and adds no volume, while lip filler adds volume; the flip is off-label, with no US neurotoxin label covering the lips.
Fillers are regulated differently: FDA treats dermal fillers as medical device implants, approved for adults over 21 for specific uses that include augmentation of the lips.
Lip flip
- Everts the upper lip by relaxing the orbicularis oris
- Adds no volume
- Off-label: no US neurotoxin label covers the lips
- A handful of toxin units
Lip filler
- Adds volume
- Regulated by FDA as a medical device implant
- Approved for lip augmentation in adults over 21
- Bought by the syringe
Structurally, a flip is a handful of toxin units, while filler is bought by the syringe — LaserAway, for one, prices Juvéderm lips per full syringe.
For scale on the filler side, ASPS's filler cost page lists the average cost of lip augmentation with filler at $743, per fees reported by ASPS member plastic surgeons — a surgeon-fee average, not a med spa price.
How long a filler lasts depends on the material and where it is injected, per the FDA, and absorbable fillers are temporary and may need repeat treatment.
Our how much does lip filler cost guide breaks down syringe and half-syringe pricing.
For the flip side of the lip flip vs filler comparison, we found no confirmed dollar figure.
Duration is part of value, and there we also came up short: we found no FDA-label or high-quality trial source for how long a lip flip lasts.
In our research, the "6 to 12 weeks" figures you see online traced to clinic and consumer sites, not to the label or the systematic review.
Because the flip's dose is a fraction of an upper-face treatment's, results are generally expected to fade sooner than in areas like the frown lines — that is an expectation, not a measured figure — so we cannot put a confirmed cost-per-month on either side.
FDA calls unintentional injection into a blood vessel the most concerning risk of dermal fillers: it can cause tissue death, vision problems including blindness, or stroke. That vascular risk is the filler one; per their labels, the main serious risk botulinum toxin products carry is spread of toxin effect, not vascular occlusion — see the boxed warning below.

What to ask your injector about the price
A lip flip quote is only comparable once you can take it apart.
These questions turn a price into numbers you can line up against another practice's.
- Which product, and how many units in total? No label sets a lip dose, and the studies report 4 to 6 units as the typical range. Units are product-specific, so get the brand and the count, not just a price.
- Do you charge per unit or per area, and what would my total be? Pricing runs per unit or per treatment area. If the quote is per area, ask how many units it includes so it can be compared with per-unit pricing.
- Where does the product come from? Federal law requires providers to buy prescription drugs only from authorized sources. The Botox Cosmetic label says genuine product shows U.S. License number 1889 on the vial and carton, and instructs that it not be used if that number is missing or the tamper-evident features look broken.
- What should I expect in the days after? The 2025 review reported mild, transient effects such as difficulty whistling or drinking through a straw, resolving within weeks. In the 2026 study of 17 women, mild adverse events resolved within 30 days.
- What would a year of treatment cost? We found no confirmed duration for a lip flip, so the practice's own re-treatment plan is what sets your annual number — ask how they time repeat sessions and whether a follow-up visit is included.
None of these is an odd question at a consultation.
A practice that answers them with numbers is giving you a quote you can compare line by line.

Who holds the syringe is state law, and it is part of the price question.
AmSpa, a med spa trade association, describes botulinum toxin injection as the practice of medicine because a prescription drug is used, so it must be done by a physician, an independent-practice nurse practitioner or another licensed professional acting within their scope, under rules that vary by state.
The CDC advises getting botulinum toxin injections only from a licensed, trained provider using product from an authorized source, and notes the procedure carries risk even when the product is FDA-approved and injected correctly.
That caution has recent grounds: on April 16, 2024, the FDA warned that counterfeit Botox had been given to consumers for cosmetic purposes in multiple states, with adverse events including hospitalizations, in incidents in which product was injected by licensed and unlicensed individuals and/or in non-medical or unlicensed settings, with product apparently bought from unlicensed sources.
The CDC's closed 2023-2024 investigation counted 17 people in nine states harmed after injections with counterfeit or unverified botulinum toxin products, or from people not following state requirements; 13 were hospitalized and 6 received botulism antitoxin.
So before comparing prices, compare those two things: who will inject, and where the product comes from.
Our lip flip guide covers the treatment itself — what it is, what the studies show and what the risks are — and any practice you consult should answer the pricing questions above in numbers.
Botox Cosmetic carries an FDA boxed warning for distant spread of toxin effect: the effects of all botulinum toxin products may spread from the injection area and cause symptoms such as generalized weakness, double vision, drooping eyelids, and swallowing or breathing difficulty, reported hours to weeks after injection. Per the label, swallowing and breathing problems can be life threatening and there have been reports of death.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a lip flip cost?
We could not confirm a national price for a lip flip specifically.
Botulinum toxin is generally priced per unit or per treatment area, and a 2025 systematic review reports a typical lip flip dose of 4 to 6 units, so a per-unit quote scales with the units a practice plans.
ASPS's cost page lists a $435 average fee for botulinum toxin injections as a single category — fees reported by ASPS member plastic surgeons, not a med spa price and not a lip flip figure.
Ask practices for a per-unit price and a planned unit count.
How many units does a lip flip use?
A 2025 systematic review of the lip flip reported a typical dose of 4 to 6 units into the orbicularis oris, the muscle that circles the mouth.
A 2026 prospective study gave 17 women 4 units each and measured a modest increase in upper lip height at 15 days.
No US label sets a lip dose — the use is off-label — so the count you are quoted is the injector's plan, which is exactly why it belongs in your price questions.
Why do lip flip prices vary so much?
Four things move the number: the pricing structure (per unit or per area), the dose planned, the product used — units are product-specific and cannot be converted between brands — and the practice's own pricing.
LaserAway, for one, listed Botox at $15 per unit, or $10 per unit in a 300-unit bank, on its pricing page and says prices may vary by location.
Two honest quotes can differ, so get the brand, the units and the total from each practice before comparing.
How long does a lip flip last?
We could not confirm a duration from any US label or high-quality trial.
In our research, the commonly quoted "6 to 12 weeks" figures traced to clinic and consumer sites, not to the label or the systematic review.
What we can say is a hedge rather than a measurement: the effect is expected to be temporary and, because the dose is a fraction of an upper-face treatment's, to fade sooner than in areas like the frown lines.
Ask the practice you consult how they time repeat sessions.
Is a lip flip covered by insurance?
The American Academy of Dermatology says insurance does not cover botulinum toxin for signs of aging.
A lip flip is an off-label cosmetic use, and we found no source addressing coverage for it specifically, so treat coverage as a question for the practice and your insurance plan before booking rather than an assumption.
