Key takeaways
- The FDA approved Eyelight on May 8, 2023, for improvement of under-eye hollowing in patients over 21 — not for dark-circle pigment.
- It is one of four US fillers with an under-eye indication; any other filler under the eyes is off-label.
- In the pivotal trial, responder rates fell from 87.4% at month 3 to 63.5% at month 12.
- The label limits treatment to up to 1 mL per side per session.
- No source checked publishes an Eyelight price; ask for a written quote naming the product and the mL.
What is Restylane Eyelight approved for?
Restylane Eyelight is an injectable hyaluronic acid gel from Galderma's Restylane line, made for the under-eye hollow.
The FDA approved it on May 8, 2023, under premarket approval P040024 supplement S135, for one use in patients over 21: improvement of infraorbital (under-eye) hollowing.
That hollow is the product's only US indication, so using Eyelight in any other area is off-label — the use is not on any current US label for the product.
The gel is bacterial-origin hyaluronic acid crosslinked with BDDE at 20 mg/mL with 0.3% lidocaine, the labeling description the Restylane gels (Kysse, Lyft and Eyelight among them) share.
The Restylane guide maps the whole family, product by product.
The approval is product-specific, and the under-eye club is small.
As of October 20, 2026, four US fillers carry an FDA-approved infraorbital-hollow indication: Juvéderm Volbella XC (2021), Restylane Eyelight (2023), Belotero Balance (+) Lidocaine (2023) and RHA Redensity Eye / Eye Lido (2026).
Any other filler placed under the eyes — Restylane-L, Juvéderm Voluma XC, Radiesse and Sculptra among them — is off-label there: that use appears on no current US label for those products.
Galderma's site promotes Eyelight to "correct dark circles," but the FDA indication covers infraorbital hollowing only — and the label warns that in people whose dark circles are pigmented, the discoloration may look more prominent after treatment. Softening a hollow can reduce the shadow it casts, which is a different thing from treating pigment.
Restylane Eyelight results: what the trial showed
The effectiveness data in the Eyelight label comes from a US randomized trial: 333 subjects at 16 centers, 287 of them treated with Eyelight and 46 left untreated for comparison.
At month 3, evaluators who did not know who had been treated rated 87.4% of treated subjects responders — at least a 1-point improvement on both sides — against 17.7% of the untreated controls.
The responder rate then declines across the trial's follow-up:
| Months after treatment | Still responders (blinded evaluators) |
|---|---|
| 3 | 87.4% |
| 6 | 86.0% |
| 9 | 77.6% |
| 12 | 63.5% |
By month 12, 63.5% of the evaluated subjects still met the responder bar.
These are group results from one trial, rated by blinded evaluators — not a prediction for any individual, and before-and-after photos anywhere online show one patient's outcome, not yours.
The label limits treatment to up to 1 mL per side per session in the infraorbital hollow, and a follow-up session is recommended if more correction is needed, because the safety of larger amounts per session has not been established.
In the trial, the median volume for both hollows together was 1.2 mL at the initial treatment and 1.0 mL at touch-up, and totals across up to 3 treatments ranged from 0.1 to 6.0 mL with a mean of 2.6 mL.
Those are trial medians and a label ceiling, not a standard dose.
The first days look different from the settled result.
In the trial's subject diaries after the initial injection, the most commonly reported reactions were tenderness (89.7%), swelling (85.0%), bruising (63.1%), redness (61.5%), pain (59.8%) and lumps or bumps (53.5%); swelling lasted 2 to 7 days for 76.6% of the subjects who had it, and 14 to 28 days for 2.0%.
The median time until subjects felt comfortable returning to social engagement was within 4 hours after needle treatment and within 12 hours after cannula treatment.

The label adds under-eye-specific warnings.
People prone to edema may get excessive swelling from fluid build-up, and injecting too superficially in the thin under-eye skin may cause contour irregularities, palpable lumps and/or bluish discoloration.
Late-onset problems — more than 2 years after injection — such as delayed inflammation or granulomas are described as low in frequency but reported, and the label says the puffiness, lumps or swelling that caused negative cosmetic outcomes were rare and correctable.
Restylane labels report isolated rare cases of ischemic events affecting the eye (vision loss) and the brain (stroke) after facial filler treatments, and note that many of the events requiring medical intervention involved the glabella, nose and periorbital area — sites the label describes as outside the device indications for use. Unusual pain, changes in vision or signs of stroke after any filler appointment call for immediate medical attention.
How much does Restylane Eyelight cost?
We could not confirm a published price for Restylane Eyelight: none of the manufacturer and professional-society sources checked for this guide on October 20, 2026 publishes a per-syringe price for the product.
The quote you get from a practice is the number that matters — ask for it in writing, naming the exact product, the amount in mL and whether a touch-up costs extra.
The amount of gel is the variable a quote turns on.
Eyelight's label caps a session at up to 1 mL per side, and the trial's median initial treatment was 1.2 mL for both hollows together, with a median 1.0 mL touch-up — amounts vary from person to person, so quotes should state how many mL they cover.
Asked about pricing for its own fillers, Allergan says Juvéderm pricing varies by the product, the amount used and the provider.
The national reference point in our sources is the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), whose latest statistics list an average cost of $715 for hyaluronic acid fillers — an average fee reported by ASPS member plastic surgeons for the HA category, not a med spa price and not an Eyelight price.
Galderma's ASPIRE Galderma Rewards program earns points on qualifying Galderma treatments, including Restylane; ask whether a practice participates.

Restylane Eyelight vs. other under-eye fillers
The under-eye indication is rare enough to list in full.
Four fillers hold it as of October 2026, from four different makers:
| Filler | Maker | FDA approval for infraorbital hollowing | Labeled ages |
|---|---|---|---|
| Restylane Eyelight | Galderma | May 8, 2023 | Over 21 |
| Juvéderm Volbella XC | Allergan | May 28, 2021 | Over 21 |
| Belotero Balance (+) Lidocaine | Merz | September 27, 2023 | Over 21 |
| RHA Redensity Eye / Eye Lido | Teoxane | May 12, 2026 | 22 and older |
Every other filler is off-label under the eyes: Restylane-L, Restylane Silk, Juvéderm Ultra and Juvéderm Voluma XC, Radiesse, Sculptra and SkinVive hold no infraorbital indication, so using them there is not on any current US label for those products.
The table lists approvals, not winners.
Each approval stands on its own product's trial, and this page does not summarize the other three trials or rank the four against each other.
On duration the data types differ too: Allergan says Volbella XC under-eye results hold for up to 1 year with optimal treatment, a manufacturer figure in marketing wording, while the Eyelight label reports trial responder rates declining to 63.5% at month 12.
Both are real numbers; they measure different things for different products.
Juvéderm Volbella XC
- Allergan says under-eye results hold for up to 1 year with optimal treatment
- A manufacturer figure in marketing wording
Restylane Eyelight
- Trial responder rates declined to 63.5% at month 12
- Rated by blinded evaluators in the label's pivotal trial
Which of the four suits a particular under-eye — and whether filler suits the anatomy at all — is a consultation question.
A licensed provider can examine the hollow, judge how much of what you see is hollowing rather than pigment, and quote what each option costs in their hands.
For the treatment itself — candidacy, technique, recovery and choosing an injector — the under-eye filler guide covers it in depth.
Frequently asked questions
Is Restylane Eyelight the same as regular Restylane?
Same family, different label.
Eyelight is a separately named Restylane product, approved on May 8, 2023, as supplement S135 to P040024 — the premarket approval original Restylane received in 2005 — for infraorbital (under-eye) hollowing in patients over 21.
Its labeling gives the description the Restylane gels share: bacterial-origin hyaluronic acid crosslinked with BDDE at 20 mg/mL with 0.3% lidocaine.
Original Restylane and Restylane-L hold no infraorbital indication, so under the eyes they are off-label.
The other fillers approved for under-eye hollowing are Juvéderm Volbella XC, Belotero Balance (+) Lidocaine and RHA Redensity Eye.
Does Restylane Eyelight get rid of dark circles?
Not as a pigmentation treatment.
The FDA approval covers infraorbital hollowing — the depression itself — not dark-circle pigment.
Galderma's site promotes Eyelight to "correct dark circles," but the label warns that injecting under the eyes in people with pigmented dark circles may make the discoloration more prominent.
A hollow can cast a shadow that reads as a dark circle, and softening the hollow addresses that shadow, not the pigment.
A licensed provider can tell you which of the two is causing what you see.
How long does Restylane Eyelight last?
The label's trial followed subjects for 12 months.
Blinded evaluators rated 87.4% of treated subjects responders at month 3, 86.0% at month 6, 77.6% at month 9 and 63.5% at month 12 — improvement faded along the trial's curve rather than switching off on a date.
That curve describes the study group, not a timer for any individual.
Ask your provider when they would expect to re-treat the under-eye area.
How much downtime is there after Restylane Eyelight?
The trial measured the recovery window directly: the median time until subjects felt comfortable returning to social engagement was within 4 hours after needle treatment and within 12 hours after cannula treatment.
Reactions still showed up in diaries — tenderness (89.7%), swelling (85.0%) and bruising (63.1%) after the initial injection — and swelling lasted 2 to 7 days for 76.6% of the subjects who had it, and 14 to 28 days for 2.0%.
These are trial figures, and individual recovery varies.
