Key takeaways
- Novo Nordisk's self-pay price for Wegovy injection is $349 per month (0.25 mg to 2.4 mg); tablets run $149 to $299 per month by dose.
- A med spa or clinic quote can bundle the medication with a program fee, so ask how the monthly total is split.
- With commercial insurance, Novo's savings offer says you may pay as little as $25 per month, if your plan covers Wegovy.
- Ozempic is FDA-approved for type 2 diabetes, not for weight loss.
- Compounded drugs are not FDA-approved, and FDA lists deep discounts that seem too good to be true as a telehealth red flag.
How much does semaglutide cost per month?
The monthly figure is the one to compare, because Novo Nordisk prices Wegovy by the month of supply — one month of injection is a box of 4 pens and one month of tablets is a bottle of 30.
The brand-name product for weight management is Wegovy, and its maker publishes self-pay prices for people paying without insurance: the table below lists Novo Nordisk's own prices, read from its NovoCare savings-offer pages on October 16, 2026.
| Product | Strength | Self-pay price |
|---|---|---|
| Wegovy injection (1 month = a box of 4 pens) | 0.25 mg to 2.4 mg weekly | $349 per month |
| Wegovy HD injection | 7.2 mg weekly | $399 per month |
| Wegovy injection, new patients | First two monthly fills at 0.25 mg or 0.5 mg | $199 per month through December 31, 2026 |
| Wegovy tablets (1 month = 30 tablets) | 1.5 mg daily | $149 per month |
| Wegovy tablets | 4 mg daily | $199 per month |
| Wegovy tablets | 9 mg or 25 mg daily | $299 per month |
These are the manufacturer's prices, not med spa prices.
Novo Nordisk publishes them through its NovoCare Pharmacy and savings offer for people paying without insurance, and the offer terms say Novo can change or cancel them at any time.
What a med spa or clinic charges is a separate number, and a quote can bundle the medication with a program fee.
What the fee includes is a question to ask in writing — the checklist at the end of this page covers prescriber visits, lab work and shipping.
We found no verified national figure for what med spa semaglutide programs charge per month.
A month of Wegovy injection is one box of 4 pens; a month of tablets is 30 tablets. If a program quotes per week or per vial, ask what the same supply costs per month so the numbers line up.
Brand-name vs clinic program pricing
When a clinic quotes "semaglutide," that word can stand for different products at different prices, so it pays to know which one you are being sold.
Brand-name Wegovy injection is FDA-approved for weight reduction and maintenance in adults and children 12 and older with obesity, and in adults with overweight plus at least one weight-related condition.
Since a December 2025 label update, Wegovy also comes as a daily tablet approved for weight reduction and cardiovascular risk reduction in adults.
Ozempic is the same molecule, but it is FDA-approved for type 2 diabetes — not for weight loss — so a program built on Ozempic for weight is prescribing off-label.
Wegovy
- FDA-approved for weight reduction and maintenance in adults and children 12 and older with obesity
- Also approved for adults with overweight plus at least one weight-related condition
- Comes as a weekly injection or a daily tablet
Ozempic
- Same molecule: semaglutide
- FDA-approved for type 2 diabetes
- Not FDA-approved for weight loss, so using it for weight is off-label
The other possibility behind a low price is a compounded copy.
Compounded drugs are not FDA-approved, and FDA does not review them for safety, effectiveness or quality before they are sold.
Our compounded semaglutide guide covers that product in detail.
A clinic's monthly quote can have two parts — the medication and a program fee — and two clinics can quote different monthly totals, so ask what each fee includes; the checklist at the end of this page lists the questions.
One thing does not change: GLP-1 drugs are prescription-only, and FDA tells patients to fill their prescriptions at state-licensed pharmacies.
Who may prescribe and supervise them at a med spa is set by state law, not by the FDA label — see who can prescribe GLP-1s.
Does insurance cover semaglutide?
With commercial insurance, the monthly cost can fall a long way: Novo's savings offer says patients may pay as little as $25 per month, with a maximum savings of $100 per month.
That figure comes from the manufacturer's offer terms, not from insurers, and it depends on a plan covering Wegovy at all — coverage of weight-management drugs is decided plan by plan, and our research could not confirm how any given plan treats it.
Medicare is a separate question, and here our research has a gap: we could not confirm what Medicare pays for semaglutide for weight management as of our October 2026 check.
The one Medicare detail we captured concerns a different GLP-1 — Lilly's Zepbound page mentions a "Medicare GLP-1 Bridge" for eligible Part D patients prescribed Zepbound for weight management, with program details and dollar caps not captured in our research.
We could not verify any Medicare price or coverage rule for Wegovy, so check your plan documents or Medicare directly before counting on coverage.
Because the rules are plan-specific, the practical step is to ask for the quote in parts: what the medication costs, what the program fee is, and which parts a plan would be billed for.
Then check the medication part against your plan's own drug coverage.

Why very cheap semaglutide is a red flag
FDA publishes telehealth red flags for GLP-1s, and a very cheap offer is worth checking against the list before you pay:
- The seller claims the compounded drug is the same as an FDA-approved drug.
- The discount is deep and seems too good to be true.
- There is no screening and no prescription by a licensed doctor.
- No doctor is available for questions.
- The label has spelling errors or a wrong pharmacy address.
- The pharmacy name is one you suspect is fraudulent.
The "same as the brand" claim is the one to press on.
FDA's own wording for this red flag is a seller that "makes claims such as the compounded drug is the same as an FDA-approved drug" — and compounded drugs are not FDA-approved and are not reviewed for safety, effectiveness or quality before sale.
The legal picture around cheap compounded semaglutide has changed, too.
FDA declared the semaglutide injection shortage resolved on February 21, 2025, and gave 503A pharmacies until April 22, 2025 and 503B outsourcing facilities until May 22, 2025 to stop making essentially-copy products.
Under FDA's rules for 503A pharmacies, a compounded GLP-1 with the same active ingredient in a similar strength and route as the approved drug is treated as an "essentially copy" unless the prescriber determines and documents that a change produces a significant difference for an identified individual patient.
FDA's semaglutide shortage timeline
| Date | What happened |
|---|---|
| February 21, 2025 | FDA declared the semaglutide injection shortage resolved (in shortage since 2022) |
| April 22, 2025 | Deadline for 503A pharmacies to stop making essentially-copy products |
| May 22, 2025 | Deadline for 503B outsourcing facilities to stop making essentially-copy products |
FDA also tracks what goes wrong: as of May 31, 2026, it had received 990 adverse-event reports associated with compounded semaglutide, a count the agency says is likely underreported.
FDA's July 2024 alert describes compounded semaglutide dosing errors, some needing hospitalization: patients drew 5 to 20 times the intended dose from multi-dose vials, and clinicians miscalculated milligram-to-'unit' conversions by 5 to 10 times the intended dose. Semaglutide's half-life is about one week, so an overdose may need prolonged observation and treatment. Severe nausea, vomiting or low blood sugar after a dose: contact your provider or seek emergency care.
How much does semaglutide cost in your city?
None of the figures on this page is a local price.
The dollar amounts are Novo Nordisk's self-pay prices for the brand-name drug, and what a med spa program charges is a separate number this page does not have: we do not publish a national average for med spa semaglutide programs because we could not verify one.
That makes the reliable way to learn the price near you a phone call or an email to the clinics themselves, asking for a written monthly total — medication plus program fee — before you commit to anything.
How to get quotes from clinics near you
A quote is only as good as the questions behind it.
These are the ones that separate a transparent program from an unclear one:
- Which product is included — brand-name Wegovy, or a compounded copy?
- How is the quote split between the medication and the program fee?
- Is the prescription filled at a state-licensed pharmacy?
- Who is the prescribing provider, and who supervises them?
- What does the fee cover besides the drug — visits, labs, shipping?
- Does the monthly price change as the dose goes up?
Two anchors help you judge the answers.
Novo Nordisk's $349 self-pay price covers the Wegovy injection strengths from 0.25 mg to 2.4 mg, with the 7.2 mg HD dose at $399 — so ask what a higher program price buys beyond the drug itself.
And an all-in monthly price that sits far below the manufacturer's own drug price is worth checking against FDA's red flag for deep discounts that seem too good to be true; ask which product the program dispenses before you pay.

Frequently asked questions
Is the $349 Wegovy price a med spa price?
No. $349 per month is Novo Nordisk's own self-pay price for Wegovy injection at its 0.25 mg to 2.4 mg strengths, read from its NovoCare savings-offer pages on October 16, 2026; the offer terms say Novo can change or cancel it at any time.
What a med spa charges on top of the drug is a separate number, and we found no verified national figure for it — ask each clinic how it splits medication cost from program fee.
Why is some semaglutide so cheap online?
Cheap can be the warning itself: FDA lists deep discounts that seem too good to be true among its telehealth red flags for GLP-1s, alongside claims that a compounded copy is the FDA-approved drug and offers with no screening or prescription by a licensed doctor.
Compounded drugs are not FDA-approved and are not reviewed by FDA for safety, effectiveness or quality before sale.
The semaglutide injection shortage was declared resolved on February 21, 2025, and FDA's deadlines for compounders to stop making essentially-copy products ran April 22, 2025 for 503A pharmacies and May 22, 2025 for 503B outsourcing facilities.
Does Medicare cover semaglutide for weight loss?
We could not confirm Medicare coverage for semaglutide for weight management as of our October 2026 research.
The one Medicare detail our research captured concerns a different GLP-1: Lilly's Zepbound page mentions a "Medicare GLP-1 Bridge" for eligible Part D patients prescribed Zepbound, with program details and dollar caps not captured.
Coverage is plan-specific, so check your plan documents or Medicare directly before counting on coverage.
How much is semaglutide without insurance?
Without insurance, Novo Nordisk's self-pay prices for brand-name Wegovy are $349 per month for injection (0.25 mg to 2.4 mg), $399 per month for the 7.2 mg HD dose, and $149, $199 or $299 per month for tablets depending on strength, as of October 16, 2026.
New patients can get the first two monthly fills of the 0.25 mg and 0.5 mg doses at $199 per month through December 31, 2026.
These figures are the manufacturer's drug prices alone — ask any clinic how its monthly total is split between medication and program fee.
