What published research says
These numbers come from outside sources, not our directory; each one links to its source below.
- KFF (Oct–Nov 2025): current GLP-1 use was highest among adults 50–64 (22%), versus 4% at ages 18–29, 11% at 30–49 and 9% at 65+; women were more likely than men to be current users (15% vs 9%). [1]
- KFF (Oct–Nov 2025): current GLP-1 use was 45% among adults ever diagnosed with diabetes, 29% among those with heart disease, and 23% among those told they were overweight or obese in the past five years; insured adults were far more likely to be current users than uninsured adults (12% vs 4%). [1]
- Where people get GLP-1s (KFF, Oct–Nov 2025): among adults who have ever taken one, 76% got it from their primary care doctor or a specialist, 17% from an online provider or website, and 9% from a medical spa or aesthetic medical center. [1]
- In KFF's May 2024 poll, 79% of adults who had taken a GLP-1 got it (or the prescription) from their primary care doctor or a specialist, 11% from an online provider or website, and 10% from a medical spa or aesthetic medical center. [2]
- KFF (Oct–Nov 2025): 56% of adults who had used GLP-1s said the drugs were difficult to afford (about 1 in 4 'very difficult'), and 27% said they had insurance but paid the full cost themselves. [1]
- Gallup's 2026 National Health and Well-Being Index survey (May 28–June 5, 2026; n=5,065) found 11% of U.S. adults currently take a GLP-1 medication for weight loss, up from 3% in 2024, and 15% have ever used one for weight loss. [3]
- Gallup (2026 survey, n=5,065): among current GLP-1 weight-loss users, 66% use a brand-name product such as Ozempic or Wegovy, 18% use a compounded or 'custom-mixed' version, and 13% are unsure which they use. [3]
- Gallup (2025, n=16,946, first three quarters of 2025) reported 12.4% of U.S. adults taking a GLP-1 specifically for weight loss (15.2% of women, 9.7% of men), up from 5.8% in February 2024; use was 16.2% at ages 40–49, 17.0% at 50–64 and 11.1% at 65+. [4]
- Gallup's self-reported U.S. adult obesity rate fell from a record 39.9% in 2022 to 37.0% in 2025 and 36.8% so far in 2026; Gallup notes self-reported height/weight runs lower than measured (NHANES) estimates and the decline is a correlation with GLP-1 use, not proof of cause. [3]
- CDC/NCHS (NHANES, measured height and weight, August 2021–August 2023): 40.3% of U.S. adults had obesity and 9.4% had severe obesity; obesity was highest at ages 40–59 (46.4%). [5]
- In ASPS's 2025 member survey, 82% of ASPS member plastic surgeons reported consultation requests related to GLP-1 medication use; surgeons most often cited tummy tucks (88%), breast surgery (87%), arm lifts (84%) and facelifts (71%) in GLP-1-related consultations. [8]
- EMA says large epidemiological studies suggest semaglutide in adults with type 2 diabetes is associated with roughly a two-fold increase in NAION risk versus not taking it, which corresponds to about one additional NAION case per 10,000 person-years of treatment (2025 data). [9]
What these numbers can't tell you
- Counts are Google Maps listings we classify as med spas, so they include dermatology and plastic surgery practices that offer med spa treatments and exclude spas without a Google listing.
- A treatment counts when the spa's Google listing or website names it, so a spa with an outdated menu can be over- or under-counted.
- Credentials count only clinicians a spa names with a credential (MD, DO, NP, PA, RN) on its own website, so spas that leave their team off their website are left out of those shares.
- Prices are published prices on med spa websites: we keep each spa's lowest posted price, which often is an introductory or member price, so the typical bill is higher.
- We hold no patient records: every figure describes providers, their listings and their Google reviews, not who gets treated.
- Ratings and review themes are Google's, as shown on each listing on the snapshot date; Google filters some reviews and does not publish how.
